Carvings

Carving, Aboriginal Carving, Wood Carving

Carving wood and stone has always been a part of the Australian Aboriginal Culture. Primitive tools made from stone were used to create many useful implements. From Canoes, boomerangs and shields to coolamons, totem poles and animal spirits carving was a part of daily life.

Bundjalung / Gumbainggir man Tim Ives uses recycled western red Cedar, silky Oak and more often Camphor Laurel to create his animal and spirit carvings. Painted in traditional ochre colours and with the use of nature fibers and feathers his creations are both beautiful and wonderfully unique.
